Geneva, IL: Executive Director, Rev. Alexander Sharp, will be leading a discussion on faith and health care. He will look at how our health care system became what it is today, what the various options are, pending legislation, and how people of faith can be involved. Be a One Chicago, One Nation Community Ambassador: Applications accepted now through March 19, 2010! Do you care about building understanding and collaboration between people from different backgrounds? Building your leadership skills? Dialoguing with others? If so, we’re excited to share with you a Chicago-based opportunity to apply to be a One Chicago, One Nation Community Ambassador.

The Community Ambassador program is open to applicants from all social, religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and from all age groups. The 100 people who are selected for the Community Ambassador program will receive extraordinary training and community connections through One Chicago, One Nation. Community Ambassadors will have a chance to build understanding and collaboration between people from different backgrounds through leadership training, service work, and dialogue facilitation. They’ll also have the opportunity to apply for $10k “Community Solution Grants” to facilitate interfaith and intercultural service work in their communities. Their time commitment will include a day of training with Interfaith Youth Core, participating in a service project, facilitating a Community Conversation, and attending two events in June.

Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) and Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) will train Community Ambassadors in:

  • Interfaith & Intercultural Dialogue Facilitation
  • Community Listening
  • Storytelling
  • Filmmaking Skills
  • Community Service Strategies

Illinois State Budget Forum

Evanston, IL: The Democratic Party of Evanston is hosting a forum on Illinois’ budget crisis to provide information on the current budget, the growing deficit, and how voters can get involved. Speakers include Ralph Martire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability; Michelle Saddler, Secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services; and Tim Schoolmaster, Director of the Illinois Public Pension Fund Association. A Faith Response to Immigration in the Midwest

Rockford, IL: Rockford Urban Ministry and Illinois Maya Ministry present a forum on immigration in the Midwest, with Rev. David Vasquez, Campus Pastor at Luther College in Decorah, IA. Rev. Vasquez will explore how the immigrant experience can help us understand religious texts while engaging faith communities in the contemporary conversation action for immigration reform. The event will take place at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural Street, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please register in advance. Cost is $35. Call the Rev.
