I write with the very sad news that our co-founder, board member, and dear friend Robert B. Wilcox died Friday, March 5. His last moments were peaceful. He was surrounded by family, as he had been almost continuously in recent days, and was resting comfortably.

Our loss is no less painful for having been expected. Bob had been placed in hospice care last Saturday. He had fought to recover his strength following surgery for stomach cancer last spring. He appeared to be making progress, and even traveled to visit a grandson at Williams College in the fall. This visit gave him great joy. Following his return, he fell into a slow but steady decline, which accelerated over the last two weeks. We have lost a true friend. How grateful we are to have known him.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Winnetka, Illinois, on Saturday, March 13 at 3 o’clock, followed by a reception at the church. The address is 784 Sheridan Road, at Humboldt Avenue."

As you already know Bob was scheduled to receive the William Sloane Coffin Award for Peace and Justice, our highest honor, at a dinner event on Sunday, April 18 at 5 p.m. We will celebrate his life and work as planned with the award to be received by his family. There will be no cost to those attending due to the extraordinary generosity of the Wilcox family in offering to underwrite the entire event. Please R.S.V.P. by April 12.

We hope that you will join us as together we express gratitude for the life and work of Robert B. Wilcox, our colleague and true friend.

Provided here is the obituary prepared by the Wilcox family.
