PCG Executive Director, Rev. Alexander Sharp, participated in a panel of religious leaders on November 4th, 2010 at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. The program, “American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us” included a presentation by author Robert Putnam followed by a discussion of the religious leaders. more

Erika Cervantes of KWQC TV interviews Rev. Alexander Sharp about the possibility of of passing a bill during the upcoming veto session that would legalize marijuana for medical use. more

PCG’s Open Board Meeting

On Tuesday, October 19th, PCG held an open board meeting on the topic “Sacrificing the Principles of Democracy: The Impact of the Illinois Budget Crisis” in James Parlor at the Chicago Temple. A panelist of experts focused on Illinois’ budget crisis and the role of government in our society. PCG board member, Larry Greenfield, moderated, starting the evening with a brief discussion on PCG’s position paper, a “Statement on Government”, followed by panelists presentations and discussion. Panelists included: John Bouman, President of the Sargent Shriver Center on National Poverty Law; David Koehler, Senator of the 46th district; Celena Roldan, Executive Director of Erie Neighborhood House; and Brenda Russell, former Director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The event was well attended – over eighty individuals came to learn and discuss. more

We bid a fond farewell to Meredith, who has just completed an internship at PCG as part of her Education and Social Policy program at Northwestern University. more

One of the interesting questions about the Illinois budget disaster is how we will know when we are bankrupt. One fiscal guru told me that this won’t happen as long as we can borrow and are willing to pay interest rates that would shame even the most profligate. more
